Cluck Cluck

Cluck Cluck

Welcome to the blog of a couple “Chicken Junkies” from the eastern panhandle of beautiful West Virginia. We started out with four tiny Old English bantams to help rid our 22 acres of ticks and other bugs. Our sweet little deaf Jack Russell Terrier has Lyme disease from the ticks.

Six months later, we are the proud owners of 4 Old English bantams, a Welsummer, a Light Brahman, 2 Silkies, 2 Russian Orloffs, 3 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Red Sex Links, 1 Bantam Cochin, 1 Frizzled Bantam Cochin, 1 Sizzle, 4 Cornish Cross, 3 Turkin, 1 White Rock, 7 Americaunas and Easter Eggers, 1 Austrolorp, 2 Buff Orphingtons, 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Sultans, 4 Serama, 3 Leghorns and a couple crazy Crested Polish. Oh, we also have 7 noisy Guinea in African White, Pied and Lavendar. Ticks and bugs seem to be gone though. :0)

Should we be worried? Time for intervention yet? Our 3 stall horse barn has become home to these personality plus little guys. They love to roam about on our acreage and look for goodies. Our dogs… Jazzy, the deaf JRT, Bert, a Corgi, Hogan , a soft-coated Wheaton Terrier and Maisy, the alpha female Shi Poo love the poultry. Maisy likes to chase a bit and Hogan wants to fetch them, but so far, so good. Wish us luck.

Oh, did I mention we are picking up a little splash Wyandotte tomorrow? SIGH

Wow, what a collection you have gathered. You seem to be quite adventurous in wanting to try new breeds. That does sound like it’s a big part of the fun of owning chickens (I wouldn’t know, as I’ve yet to have any). But the variety of sizes, colors, even temperaments. What fun!

Cenay, Thanks for stopping by. I guess we have around 50 adult birds and probably around 100 babies.
That second number is always changing since we are running 4 incubators non stop.

The Poultry Podiatry web page address has changed & will be changing again before too long. I was wondering if you would change the link to go to PoultryPedia.com, which will be the constant home page with a very visible link to the Poultry Podiatry sub-page.
Thank you very much for collecting & posting helpful chicken links for others to use!
(I tried but wasn’t able to get this to go through in the message form above, so hope this is an alright place to submit through.)

  5. Wow! That is a menagerie, but sounds like a lot of fun. You are very lucky.
